How to naturally lower the cholesterol?

Choose fat

Why: the balance of the total cholesterol * and the decrease in bad cholesterol * depends more on the quality of ingested fat than their quantity. There are  'good' and 'bad' fats. The fats rich in saturated fatty acids increase bad cholesterol, unlike those rich in unsaturated fatty acids.

Which: limit butter * and prefer vegetable oils like olive for cooking oil, nuts or rapeseed for seasoning, and phytosterols enriched margarines

Limit: the oils of sunflower, peanut and beneficial in small doses but corn less excess

To ban: the oils of Palm, coconut, copra, rich in saturated fatty acids.

* There are 2 types of cholesterol: LDL or bad cholesterol which in excess can build up against the walls of the arteries, causing atherosclerosis. and the HDL or good cholesterol that recover excess cholesterol in the bodies and brought to the liver where it is eliminated.

Eat garlic

Garlic would decrease the total cholesterol and bad cholesterol.

Why: it is on the same principle as statins *, by inactivating the enzyme that controls the production of cholesterol by the liver. Garlic also contain fructans, magnesium and adenosine, compounds that have a direct action on the fluidity of the blood, the elimination of water, and dilation of the arteries.

Consumption: 2 cloves garlic raw or cooked/4days, crushed or minced

* the Statins are drugs that aim to reduce the production of cholesterol by the liver by inhibiting an enzyme responsible for its manufacture.

Discover the benefits of nuts

Walnuts can reduce the level of bad cholesterol. According to a study of  40 Japanese in 2002, revealed that consumption of 44g to 84g of walnuts per day for 4 weeks  had decrease the total cholesterol  and bad cholesterol (LDL) to 4 to 12% of 9-16% respectivelym in test group.

Why: nuts, rich in good polyunsaturated fatty acids and phytosterols, would change the way in which  fats are degraded, thus reducing the level of bad cholesterol (LDL).

Consumption: a dozen of walnuts per day,  but also cashew nuts, Pecans, of the Brazil.

Note: hazelnuts have also this virtue.

Eat soy

After numerous American studies on soybean, Food and Drug Administration * concluded that a diet containing 25g of protein from soy daily reduced the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Why: it is not yet known why, but many studies show that soy reduces the cholesterol.

How : By replacing certain foods (meat for example) by tofu, or in the form of soy milk...

10 tips for flat belly

Limit certain foods

Good food, this is the condition to have a pretty flat belly. It is not necessarily to lose weight, but rather eat better. Some foods slow transit and promote bloating. Limit which ferments: cauliflower, broccoli, peas or legumes (lentils, split peas, Chick pitch...). Prefer fruits and vegetables rich in fibre which boost bowel activity, such as plums and prunes, beans or salad. Don't overuse food if they irritate your gut. Also avoid fatty products that slow down digestion, sweets, spices and the irritant (alcohol, coffee).

Stay active
Sedentary lifestyle, is the enemy of the transit! Try to walk at least half an hour per day. For example, get off a bus station earlier, avoid elevators, more systematically take the car, take advantage of weekends to long walks... You can also do a little swimming or bike, and if you like exercise, a few sets of exercise every day for a small quarter of an hour.  Physical activity also burns calories and stimulates the sympathetic nervous system which controls the organism to draw or in its fat reserve.

Plants that refine the belly
Herbal medicine can be a great help to keep a flat belly. The purple calm digestive disorders for example. As the fumitory, it drains the liver, gallbladder and regulates the nervous system, frequently involved in digestive problems. The ideal? Take them in the form of herbal tea three times a day after each meal (let infuse 5 minutes, 2 tablespoons each plant in half a litre of boiling water). This formula allows to detoxify the body, year-round without risk or adverse effects (attention: they are prohibited during pregnancy and breastfeeding...).

Try the massage...

Massaging the belly five minutes, morning and evening, in a clockwise direction, thus boosting it`s intestinal transit, and partly avoiding bloating. For more efficiency, you can perform this action with an essential oils (note that these are concentrated, irritants, which must always be diluted and products which are prohibited in the event of pregnancy or breastfeeding). Add 5 ml of Cedar EO + 5 ml of Lemon HE fat 100 ml of vegetable oil. Try on a few inches of skin. In the absence of reaction after 24 hours, you can apply your ointment  2 times per day for three weeks, roll around the navel.

Drink enough water

Drink at least 1 litre of water per day is essential to regain a flat belly! Why? Because this prevents drying of the stool, thus improving the transit and prevent constipation (often source of bloating).

Carbonated water or not? An Italian study of 21 people, the consumption of carbonated water would improve transit. However, most of these waters are salty, which increases the risk of retention of water, and therefore bloating!

What water to choose? Those rich in bicarbonates to aid digestion (St Yorre, Vichy Celestins, Arvie, Quézac, Contrex, Vittel, Hepar). And those rich in magnesium or sulfate to improve transit (Talians, Hepar, Contrex and Courmayeur).

Homeopathy special flat belly !

Some homeopathic remedies could help find a nice flat belly! How? In acting, not on weight loss, but on the transit  (they limit the bloating).

What needs to take account, according to Dr. Albert-Claude Quemoun, pharmacist, president of the homeopathic Institute scientific: Lycopodium 5CH (top of the swollen belly), Carbo Vegetabilis 5CH (bottom of the swollen belly) or China Rubra 5CH (if any belly is swollen).

Dosage: 2 tablets to let melt under the tongue three times per day, preferably  half hour before the meal or 1 hour after. Treatment should be stopped when the bloating disappeared.

Breathe through the belly

You may not know but breathing can help to find (and keep!) a nice flat belly How? Facilitate digestion thanks to massage of the diaphragm and abdominal muscles, and evacuating even stress (often responsible for bloating).

Special breathing flat belly: while standing, sitting or lying, put hands on the belly.  Inspires up to  the lower abdomen, and expires by mouth while pressing with the hands on the belly to empty all the air. Do this five times in the morning and five times in the evening, every day.

A flat belly with cosmetics?

More sunny days approach, more creams "slimming tummy" multiply on the shelves. Can you believe their benefits? According to Dr. Catherine Solano: "this is perhaps not a 100% scam, but their effect is more placebo than real." In fact, these creams can encourage the thinning of the belly because they contain most often caffeine to burn fat, the retinol (or vitamin A) to prevent their storage, or collagen to firm skin tissues. Nevertheless, to really see results, we must apply them every day for at least 2 months, follow an equiliberated food and exercise.

Beef up you smoothly

When you think "abdominal", we immediately say "suffering". However, simple exercises to tone smooth muscles of the abdominal strap. Among these, pedaling!

In practice: lying on your back, hands behind your head, legs stretched vertically, when inspires  legs down and when expires legs up (as if one pedaled with both feet at the same time - without taking off or rotate the basin). Caution: always return the abdomen at the time of expiration and not to put both feet on the ground, otherwise the exercise is ineffective. The best is to make at least several rounds of 20 rotations... every day.

Cosmetic surgery solutions

Repeated weight gain, pregnancy... Cosmetic surgery can intervene via liposuction or Abdominoplasty.

Principle: For liposuction, "we aspire grease entering a cannula under the skin. The skin retracts automatically by internal scarring", explains Dr. Thierry Ktorza, plastic surgeon. For the tummy tuck, "removing grease, it tightens the muscles and removing excess skin".

For whom? Liposuction is aimed at women who have 'just' excess fat. Abdominoplasty is recommended for women with a very damaged belly and that hangs.

How much does it cost? About 3,000 euros for liposuction (not refunded). Approximately 4 000 euros for Abdominoplasty (supported by the CPAM if the belly is very damaged).

Food for those who wants to loose weight without exercise and reducing food intake

Food for those who wants to  loose weight without exercise and reducing food intake.

Pistachios

If you’re looking to trim down your belly, then pistachios, together with almonds, are one of the best nuts you can snack on. They are lower in calories and fat than most other nuts, while remaining high in protein, fibre and other essential vitamins and minerals.

Peppermint
Peppermint is known for its potent healing and calming digestive properties, so if you’re looking to slim down your stomach, it makes sense to start including it in your diet. The easiest way to do this is to drink it in tea form, so pick up a box from your local supermarket (organic if possible) and try drinking three cups a day. Great for clearing the skin, too!

Oats
Oats are filling, which makes it hard to believe that they can help you lose weight. But eating a portion in the morning for breakfast as part of a low-calorie diet is a great way to provide your body with slow-release, natural energy throughout the day, which keeps you feeling fuller for longer and can even lower your cholesterol.

Kelp
Kelp or seaweed is prized for its high levels of iodine which helps to create the thyroid hormones in your body. These regulate your metabolic rate – the rate in which your body burns fat. It also contains several minerals which have been found to assist the breakdown of belly fat and relieve water retention. Source it out in Japanese supermarkets or pick up from health food stores in a supplement form.

Chilli
Adding chilli to your food is a great way to boost your metabolism, which helps you to burn fat faster. A single chilli pepper also contains a full day’s supply of beta carotene (which is great for maintaining healthy skin, hair and nails) and twice your recommended daily allowance of vitamin C – an essential antioxidant that helps to battle toxins and foreign bodies in the blood stream.

Cucumber
Believe it or not, cucumbers are actually a member of the melon family, and therefore have very similar slimming properties. It is a natural diuretic, which means consuming it eases water retention and bloating in the body. Why not make a slimming watercress, bean, mint and cucumber salad for a powerful tummy flattening lunch?

Berries
Tiny but mighty, berries are stuffed full of antioxidants and fibre – just one cup of raspberries contains a whopping 6g. Plus, they’re low in calories too. Add a handful into a healthy smoothy or sprinkle over your breakfast cereal.

Lemongrass
A key ingredient in many south east Asian dishes, lemongrass is thought to have an anti-inflammatory effect on the digestive system, as well as improving blood circulation. It is also thought to aid the body in dealing with excessive fats in the body.

Sunflower Seeds
Sunflower seeds contain a bountiful supply of dietary fibre, which could fill you up for longer and keep sweet cravings at bay, while easing digestion at the same time. They are packed full of antioxidant vitamin E, too, which is essential for skin health, as well as protein and complex carbs.

Fennel
This liquorice-flavoured root vegetable is packed with vitamin C, potassium, and manganese and has long been used as a remedy for digestive problems. Thanks in part to its high dietary fibre content, it promotes healthy digestion, reducing swelling in the body, flushing out toxins and excess fluids. Fennel tea can also help to stave off hunger pangs, so pick up a box from your local health food shop and get slurping.

Watercress
Watercress is jammed full of nutrients, including vitamin B1, B2, B6, C and E, as well as minerals manganese, carotene and potassium. This makes watercress a powerful cleansing agent, improving the digestion and nourishing the skin, while its diuretic properties help to flush out toxins and excess fluids. Watercress is also a fabulous source of iodine, which helps to boost your metabolism, so it makes sense to include it in your diet if you’re striving to achieve a flat stomach.

Natural Yoghurt
Pro-biotic, live natural yoghurt can help to relieve bloating and discomfort in the stomach, because it contains live bacteria that aid digestion. Opt for a low fat option to cut down on saturated animal fats, too.

Salmon
Salmon, much like mackerel, is a good source of lean protein, and a rich source of omega 3 and 6 fatty acids. Grill or steam with a bit of lemon and serve with asparagus for a powerful belly-flattening meal.

Black Pepper
A simple way to prevent bloating and discomfort after eating? Add a bit of freshly ground pepper to your meal. It’s a natural digestive aid, and helps to relieve bloating at the same time.

Pears
The high pectin (natural fruit sugars) content contained within pears makes the juicy fruit a strong diuretic and good at fending off unwanted water retention. They are high in fibre, too, which encourages a feeling of fullness and healthy digestion.

Dandelion
Similarly, if you are looking to lose water weight caused by retention, try drinking dandelion root tea, or a herbal tea that contains dandelion as an ingredient. It is a natural diuretic, and will help your kidneys to flush out excess fluids and sodium. Consider adding a few squeezes of…

Yarrow
Yarrow might be a common weed to some, but taken in tea or tablet form, it’s a powerful diuretic and has anti-inflammatory properties, great for maintaining a healthy digestive system.

Leeks
High in potassium and vitamin C, eating leeks is a quick and easy way to relief excess weight around the stomach caused by water retention.

Horse Chestnut
Horse chestnut seeds, leaves, bark and flowers have been used for centuries to treat numerous conditions and diseases, thanks to its anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic properties. Drink in tea form to reap the belly flattening rewards.

Liquorice
It’s better for your flat stomach drunk in tea form than eaten as sugary confectionary, but the digestive and anti-inflammatory benefits of liquorice are not to be sniffed at.

Lentils
Eating a couple of portions of lentils a week could help you to flatten your tummy, because they’re a cost-effective way to pack in a lot of different stomach-strengthening nutrients at once, including fibre, complex carbohydrates and proteins.

Pineapple
Much like its tropical cousin, pineapple boasts a digestive enzyme that helps to ease bloating, settle your stomach, and even relieve heartburn. It’s high in natural fruit sugars, or fructose, which could stave off sweet cravings.

 Quinoa
Did you know that, when she wants to get into shape for a shoot fast, Kate Moss eats quinoa instead of cereal for breakfast? That’s because it’s what is known as a complete grain, combining protein, fibre, B vitamins and complex carbohydrates all in one. Eating grains like quinoa will help to boost your metabolism, and burn belly fat faster, as will…

Avocado
There is a reason why guacamole exists beyond it being darn tasty! Avocado is often paired with spicy food because it soothes the digestive system after it is irritated by the heat. Avocado also contains potassium, which helps to regulate fluid balance, as well as magnesium, which prevents constipation.

Peanuts
Peanuts get a bad rep in the diet world, but eating a small handful as a snack in between meals could stop you from overeating, and give you the protein you need to carve a lean, flat stomach. Peanuts are rich in omega 3 fatty acids and fibre, as well as skin-conditioning vitamin E.

Brown Rice
If you’re looking to flatten and tone your belly, you should aim to eat a complex carbohydrate that is rich in muscle-strengthening protein and vitamins, like brown rice. It’s better than white rice, because it contains a rich supply of energizing B vitamins, which could help you burn calories faster.

Ginger
Ever wondered why your sushi comes with a side of ginger? The spicy root has been used for centuries as a digestive aid, because it possesses anti-inflammatory, anti-nausea and antioxidant properties. It also contains an enzyme called zingibain, which helps digest proteins.

Cinnamon
A sprinkling of cinnamon could be all that’s standing in the way of you and those washboard abs. The sweet spice helps to regulate soaring blood sugar levels by stimulating insulin production. There is some evidence to suggest that cinnamon extract also makes fat cells more responsive to insulin, which means they’re much less likely to hold on to excess energy, and far more likely to burn existing fat stores instead.

The two popular species of lemongrass are East Indian (Cymbopogon flexuous) and West Indian lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus).
